9 Kenyan Ladies Murdered Too Young

In the wake of increased cases of young Kenyan ladies whose lives have been cut short in gruesome ways, the most recent being Moi University medical student Ivy Wangechi, sharp reactions have been raised over the horrifying trend.

Counseling psychologist Josephine Abincha speaking to the Nation, attributed the trend of violence towards women to intimidation among men as the women become more independent and grow in their careers.

The following list is a heart-wrenching stories of cold-blooded murders in the past decade:

Ivy Wangechi

On Tuesday, sixth year Moi University student, Ivy Wangechi, was hacked to death by her jilted lover who allegedly drove all the way to Eldoret to commit the heinous act.

The suspect, Naftali Kinuthia, is said to have explained that he took the action out of frustrations after Wangechi failed to reciprocate his love towards her.

The incident that sounds every note of a ‘murder with a motive’ adds to the growing statistic of cold-blooded murders of young Kenyan ladies.

Anne Wanjohi

Anne Wanjohi, in 2017, was shot dead by her lover, a police officer identified as Constable Simon Njoroge Njau, for turning down his marriage proposal.

The police constable further went ahead and shot himself three times and later succumbed to his self-inflicted wounds three days later at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Endinal Nyainda

In 2016, Endinal Nyainda was stabbed to death by her lover following an argument after she threatened to leave him.

The killer then went ahead and called the victim’s sister asking her to come and pick up the corpse of the slain body at a Kahawa apartment where the two lovers lived.

This is one of the many such cases where murders have been caused by love gone sour.

Monica Nyawira

In 2018, the country was treated to a sombre moment after businesswoman Monica’s body was discovered by her brother at her house in Luciane apartments on Kitale Lane, off Dennis Pritt road in Nairobi.

The deceased was found with her hands tied, her throat slit and her body dipped in the bathtub with the water running.

Investigations into Monica’s murder led to the arrest of Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe and her lover Jowie Irungu who was the main suspect in the murder.

Sharon Otieno

Earlier the same year, Rongo University student Sharon Otieno's body was found in a thicket where she lay in her blood-stained white tracksuit, with her underwear and condoms around her.

The slain university student was abducted from a Garca hotel together with NTV journalist Barrack Oduor.

Mr Oduor later freed himself from the abductors by jumping out of a moving vehicle.

Sharon was at the time of her death pregnant with Governor Okoth Obado's baby. The county boss is the main suspect in her murder.

Janet Wangui

In 2018, Janet Wangui, who was allegedly having an affair with her husband's nephew was shot dead at City Park in Nairobi by police.

The police claimed that the two were having sex in their car and upon being asked to lower the windows, they attempted to drive off, an act that prompted the officers to open fire.

Janet, who was shot alongside Benard Chege, succumbed to her wounds in hospital later on the same day.

Lucy Njambi

Lucy Njambi, former Riruta MCA Samuel Ndung'u's ex-wife, was abducted from her house in Thindigua estate raped, made to drink acid, and left for dead in a coffee plantation near Kamiti corner along the Ruiru-Kiambu road.

She was later found by passers-by and rushed to Kiambu Level Five hospital where she died while receiving specialised treatment.

Ndung’u’s driver later testified against his boss explaining that since the deceased was accused of infidelity, the former MCA had vowed to ‘put the matter to an end.”

The MCA was later arrested and arraigned in a Kiambu Court to answer to death charges levelled against him over Njambi’s death.

Carol Ngumbi

In 2017, Carol Ngumbi was found murdered alongside the then IEBC ICT official Chris Msando. They had been reported missing in unclear circumstances.

Neither the events that lead to the death of the then 21-year-old campus student nor the relationship that linked her to Chris was established.

Mercy Keino

One of the most prominent of such cases was that of Mercy Keino, the then 25-year-old whose body was found dumped along Waiyaki Way in 2011.

Prior to her death, Keino had attended a party at Wasini Luxury Homes on Church Road in Westlands a short distance from where her lifeless body was founded.

One of those prominently mentioned in the case was former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo who is said to have had an altercation with Ms Keino during the party.

However, Kabogo was cleared by the court in 2016.
