Ivy Wangechi's Mother Pays Emotional Tribute at Funeral

The late Ivy Wangechi's mother Winfred Waithera, paid a very emotional tribute to her daughter during the funeral on Thursday.

Speaking at the burial in Mahiga, Nyeri County, she listed all the things she would miss about her departed daughter.

"I miss you my Ivy already [sic]. I wonder who will take care of me the way you did? Who will be buying my purses? Who will be buying my earrings and perfumes? Who will approve my clothes' designs? I am at a loss," Waithera stated.

She added that her siblings too were missing their beloved sister.

Winfred recalled Ivy's dream of finishing medical school in order to take care of the family.

The mourning mother took comfort in the fact that God had a different way of fulfilling her daughter's dreams.

"We wish you did not go so soon our caretaker. Our best friend. We love you even in death. Fare thee well my sleeping beauty it is so sad to say goodbye so I'll see you in heaven," she concluded.

Ivy's sister Cheryl was too emotional to read her tribute as she sobbed on the podium, flanked by other family members.

On Wednesday evening before the funeral, youth in Nyeri paid tribute to the slain university student by holding a night vigil in her honour.

They used the opportunity to educate one another on abuse in relationships.

Waruguru wa Kiai, one of the organisers of the vigils told Kenyans.co.ke that they discussed the sanctity of human life and respect of individuals when it comes to relationships.

They also invited the local police officers who reaffirmed that nothing should ever justify taking the life of another human being.
