19-Year-Old Kills Younger Brother to Earn Mother's Love

A 19-year-old boy was on Friday arrested in Eldoret after he confessed to killing his younger brother.

A report by KTN  indicates that the suspect, William Githinji, had asked his younger brother, Peter Mutahi, 12, to accompany him on a walk on April 16.

The two brothers then left Kahoya Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County. However, Mutahi, did not return home that day prompting their mother to make a report at the local police station.

It later emerged that Githinji, who sat his KCSE exams in 2018 and scored a C+, had killed his brother after he took responsibility.

He took police officers from Eldoret Central Police station to the pit latrine where he had dumped the body of the Class Six pupil.

According to eyewitnesses, Githinji claimed that he had killed his younger brother to earn his mother's love.

"Tukaanza kumuuliza kwa nini uliuwa, akasema aliuwa kwa sababu alikuwa anataka mama ampende. Alisema kuna vitu zilikwa zinamwambia kwamba auwe ndio apendwe (We asked him why he killed his brother and he told us that he wanted his mother to love him. He said some things had told him to kill his brother to earn his mother's love," a bystander explained.

The incident was confirmed by Eldoret Central DCI Linah Kavaila who revealed that the suspect had denied committing the crime until Friday when he chose to co-operate with the investigators.

She further revealed that Githinji had been away from home after falling out with his mother. He returned home on the day that he killed his younger brother.
