Mzee Moi's Moving Tribute at Jonathan's Funeral

Former President Daniel Moi, On Saturday, paid a touching tribute to his son, Jonathan Moi, revealing that his biggest achievement was getting the chance to be his father.

In a tribute delivered by his other son Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Mzee Moi revealed that from a very tender age, Jonathan showed signs of being a down to earth and a hardworking person adding that his love for farming and rally competitions came as no surprise to him.

He also revealed that he felt so much sorrow that his son died ahead of him but explained that it was all part of God's planning and that it should be enough proof that material things are not all that important.

"Fathers shouldn't bury their children. A son should never be buried by his father but Jonathan's death was God's will. You are the blood of my blood. Stay well son until we meet again

"You were not perfect, but you were my son. Blood of my blood," read Gideon.

Moi also commemorated Jonathan's mother, Lena Moi, who died in 2004 and was buried at Kabarak. He envisioned Jonathan being received in heaven by his mother.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, who also spoke during funeral service, revealed how former President Daniel Moi was informed of the death of his eldest son Jonathan Moi.

He revealed that it was not easy to inform the old man that he had lost a son and that Baringo Senator Gideon Moi had been accompanied by some clerics to his home.

"We were discussing with Senator Gideon about Jonathan's death and how it came. As you can all imagine, when news like this comes, you don't know how to break it.

"So he was telling me that eventually when the death was known and they were wondering how to break the news to mzee. He got Bishop Yego and others and they went and beat around the bush until they eventually they broke the news," stated the governor.

Jonathan passed away on Friday, April 19, at a Nakuru hospital where he had been admitted.
