Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday joined members of the Israel Assemblies of God in Molo, Nakuru County for a fundraiser and participated in the popular Akorino dance, where they jumped up and down in praise.
He was accompanied by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa, Bahati MP Kimani Nginjiri, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika as well as former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.
The DP was honouring an invitation to a fundraiser to build the Israel Assemblies of God church by Molo MP Francis Kimani.
Ruto donated Ksh1.5 million and an additional Ksh1 million from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In his address, the DP stated he will continue supporting the President in furthering the development of the country, besides building his legacy.
Ichungwa on his part defended the frequency with which Ruto has been donating to churches.
"Wale ambao wanachukia mungu wanasema tusiende kanisa kuchangisha pesa na wao wakipeleka pesa zao kwenye wanapeleka usiku, sisi hatuwaulizi. Sisi hatutachoka kushirikiana wakati tunafanya kazi ya mungu (Those who hate God are telling us not to raise money for churches yet we don't ask where they take theirs in the night. We will not tire in working together to do the Lord's work)," he stated.
The Nakuru Senator explained that as leaders, they did not invite themselves to churches to contribute, but only did so upon requests by clergy and members of the public.
She praised Ruto for leading the work of building churches, adding that it would be improper for leaders to live in palatial homes while houses of worship were in a sorry state.
Kabogo used the chance to speak about how God fulfilled his prayer that Kenya's loan request, for the extension of the SGR from Naivasha to Kisumu, would be turned down.
"Nimepiga magoti juzi nikaomba sana ile pesa Raila alisema itapatikana huko China, nikaomba isipatikane (I knelt down and prayed that the loan Raila said would come from China would not be advanced)," he spoke.
He also advised Ruto not to wait to be handed the presidential ticket in 2022, as was promised by Jubilee leaders but instead, seek it aggressively.
