CS Kiunjuri Sacks NCPB Acting MD Albin Sang Over Ksh1 Billion Maize Deal

National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) acting managing director Albin Sang was sacked over the alleged sale of about Ksh1 Billion maize imported from Mexico, Business Daily reports.

Sang was shown the door after overseeing the selling of about 600,000 bags of maize to millers without the authorisation of the Ministry.

“Mr Sang has been sacked in regard to the selling of maize that was imported from Mexico in 2017. He was acting on the letter that had been sent by former PS directing the board to dispose of the grain.

“The CS took the action after he recently learnt that this maize had been sold off without his authorisation,” a source who spoke to the publication revealed.

According to reports, the maize which was bought by millers for animal feeds was not in good condition.

Sang has been redeployed at the State Department of Livestock as Zakayo Magara who served as deputy director of food security at the State Department of Agriculture, replaced him at NCPB on Friday.

The former MD has held the position for almost a year.

The changes come when the Ministry is expected to hold a meeting with millers to agree on modalities of releasing cheap maize from the Strategic Food Reserve (SFR).

The meeting with the chairpersons of different milling associations will seek to come up with ways of easing the rising cost of flour.

In a letter, Agriculture Principal Secretary Hamadi Boga stated,"Due to the escalating maize prices and the subsequent high maize flour prices being experienced in the country, the government intends to release part of the strategic maize reserves into the market to stabilise grain supply and food prices."
