Marsabit Lawmaker Dies at Mombasa Beach

Residents of a Marsabit ward are now in mourning following the untimely demise of Loiyangalani Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mark Ekale at a Mombasa beach.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Marsabit speaker Mathew Loltome confirmed that the legislator had visited Mombasa together with his colleagues to attend a Lapfund summit.

Ekale then hit one of the city's beaches together with his colleagues before he started complaining of pains and was rushed to Prima Hospital where he was declared dead.

The County was, however, yet to establish the cause of his untimely death.

"We are yet to establish the cause. He died in Mombasa. He complained that he was not feeling well and even fainted.

"We are with the family here (Marsabit). It just happened last night. We are still deliberating on what to do," stated Loltome.

Ekale was among only three legislators who had clinched their seat for the second time in a row. The others were Elema Diba Guyo (Dukana MCA) and David Tomasot (Korr-Ngurunit MCA).

Our sources from the county's Assembly revealed that a post mortem test was being planned but the MCA had reportedly battled High Blood Pressure (HBP) for some time.

Leaders from the region have mourned the lawmaker with Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani describing him as an enthusiastic and ever jovial leader.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing on of Loiyangalani MCA Hon Mark Ekale this Evening in Mombasa. Mark was an enthusiastic, always jovial and a leader who never hesitated to contribute positively to society.

"He always treasured his family, friends and committed himself to better the lives of his constituents. He will be remembered for his wisdom, sobriety and humility. May God grant his Soul Eternal Peace," posted Yatani.
