Reason Why High Court Judge Conducted Proceedings While Standing

A Mombasa High Court judge caused dismay in the courtroom on Monday after he presided over a case while standing.

His move elicited different opinions from various people who have watched his video on Facebook.

While commenting on the matter, the judge, Eric Ogola, who was using a specially designed bench podium, stated that sitting for long hours exposes judicial officers to back pains and ailments.

Netizens on Facebook equally weighed in on the matter.

"It's very good for his health. I also had to leave my seat and introduce a higher working table cause it's more healthy standing than sitting," one Jimmy cited.

"With all due respect, sitting and traveling in luxury cars can also affect the back and also the head," stated Neer Shah.

"Sports that's all you need, the ocean is just around the corner," Salim Balala weighed in.

The high court judge has presided over a number of cases over the years. In February 2019, netizens criticized him after he ordered the release of 10 million kilograms of imported rice that Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) had condemned.

He had ordered the release of 10,327 tonnes of rice valued at more than Ksh250 million, which was being held at a warehouse in Mombasa by a multiagency team.

Kenyans accused the judiciary of issuing orders that could see the public consume bad rice that could cause harm to their health.
