A police officer attached to Bomet Senator Christopher Lang'at was arrested on Tuesday after reporting that he was robbed on Monday evening.
He reported at Embakasi Police Station that the thugs made away with his Ksh10,000 at Pipeline-Ransami.
The arrest was ordered after his superiors learned that the bodyguard had also lost his firearm but failed to report it.
At the time of the incident, the Ceska Pistol serial number B021194 had 12 rounds of ammunition.
"He did not mention of the loss of firearm until he was summoned by his seniors at the camp when they got wind that the officer had lost a firearm,” read a report filed at the Lang’ata police station.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Tony Munga explained to Kenyans.co.ke what transpires after an officer loses his firearm.
An inquiry is set up to investigate the circumstances under which the gun was lost.
Meanwhile, efforts to recover the stolen firearm are initiated to make sure the weapon is not used for robbery.
Whenever crimes are committed using firearms, a ballistics analysis is conducted to reveal the type of firearm that was used.
Speaking of gun crimes, the National Police Service withdrew the firearm issued by disgraced athlete Asbel Kiprop after he posted alarming messages on his Facebook page.
"I pray to the National Police Service to dismiss me now before I use their machinery to earn myself justice," read the post.
