Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General, Francis Atwoli, speaking during the Labour day celebrations held at Uhuru Park on Wednesday inexplicably referred Nairobi County's women representative, Esther Passaris, as a poor organizer.
The event which was surprisingly snubbed by the Federation of Kenyan Employers (FKE) has since been dubbed as a "kieleweke rally" (referring to the faction of government officials who are in open opposition against Deputy President William Ruto).
It was just as he was about to hand over the microphone to vocal Likoni Member of Parliament, Mishi Mboko, that the firebrand leader turned to Ms Passaris and referred to her as a poor organizer.
"Ms Passaris, I acknowledge your presence but you are a terrible organizer," Mr Atwoli blurted out.
However, speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Ms Passaris stated that she enjoyed a very cordial relationship with the COTU Secretary-General, adding that Mr Atwoli had actually helped her out a lot during her campaigns for the Woman Representative seat.
"I think he meant to say that I am a very serious organizer as honorable Kalonzo Musyoka mentioned later on. I am not in a position to comment on what he actually meant by his statement as he is the only one who can do that," she divulged.
Attempts to reach the COTU Secretary-General for clarification proved futile as his phone was out of reach.
Mr Atwoli had earlier on caused quite a stir when he hinted at the possibility of a third term for President Uhuru Kenyatta, who he described as too young to step down from active politics.
"Uhuru ni kijana mdogo, mnataka aende wapi, loosely translating to Uhuru is still a young man, where do you want him to go after retire?" he retorted.
Going on to urge members of the National Assembly present to push for a referendum that would amend the Constitution to allow Uhuru to run for the presidency past the current constitutional dispensation of a maximum of two terms.
