Wetangula Opens Up on How Raila Backstabbed Him

Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula, finally spoke out on what transpired during the frantic 2017 post-election days that had threatened to boil down into anarchy after opposition leader, Raila Odinga, revealed his plans to swear himself as the people's president.

Speaking during an interview on KTN news, the Ford party leader revealed that Raila's handshake with Uhuru was the ultimate betrayal at the time as he did it without consulting his co-principals, Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi in the National Super Alliance (NASA) party.

However, Mr Wetangula said he has since forgiven Raila, adding that they have had several cordial sit-downs with the ODM party leader since then.

"I was wronged by Raila but I forgave him, we have met, enjoyed meals and even watched Arsenal matches together over small talk," he divulged.

Mr Wetangula explained that the NASA principals were not against the handshake but rather the fact that they got to know of its existence on television like every other Kenyan as Raila had kept them in the dark.

"It's not just me but also my co-principals who were caught by surprise when the handshake took place, not because it was bad, because we had actually been pushing for dialogues with the jubilee party," he explained.

He further confessed to being against Raila's move to have himself sworn in as the people's president on January 30, 2018.

The NASA leaders felt that despite the general idea being right, Raila went about it the wrong way, ultimately leading to NASA's fallout after the co-principals failed to show up for the Uhuru Park ceremony, ultimately costing Wetangula his Senate Minority leader position, which was then handed to Siaya senator, James Orengo.

Mr Wetangula also spoke on his distaste over how the judiciary was bootlicking the executive arm of government.

"I saw Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga cheering Uhuru and thanking him for bringing development to his Kisii People. The CJ has no people and what happens in Kisii has nothing to do with Maraga," he remarked.
