A contingent of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers on Wednesday stormed Diani Police Station in a bid to rescue their colleague who had been arrested and detained.
Sgt Suleiman Hamisi Banda is said to have gone to the police station to demand back his motorcycle that had been towed.
The police at the station revealed that the motorbike was towed after the rider abandoned it by the roadside when he was flagged down by the traffic officers.
The police asked the KDF officer to produce the rider and the ownership documents before they handed him the motorcycle.
An argument ensued that later deteriorated into a fist fight and the KDF officer was overpowered, arrested and detained in the same station.
Soon after, a KDF truck with about 12 officers stormed into the police station.
People Daily reported that the KDF officers went on to raid the cells, rescued their colleague and left with the motorcycle.
“Our seniors watched from a distance without intervening. This kind of intimidation and harassment by our colleagues must stop, it has affected our morale, we are bitter,” stated a police officer who sort anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
This comes a few weeks after other KDF officers stormed Lang’ata police station on the same mission of rescuing a colleague who had been arrested.
The police have condemned the actions calling for an end to such intimidation and harassment.
