The National Paralympic team on Thursday afternoon blocked part of the Thika superhighway causing a major snarl-up.
The team which was spread across the busy highway was protesting delayed allowances after representing the country in Morocco for qualifiers to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on phone Agnes Oluoch, who is the president of the team's federation, revealed that despite exemplary performance in Morocco, the team was yet to receive its allowances.
“We were position four out of 33 countries and came home with a total of 42 medals but the athletes are yet to be paid,” Agnes stated.
The protest disrupted transport along the busy highway (at Garden City Mall) as the athletes sat across the main lanes leading into town.
Travelers were left frustrated as no vehicle could access the Central Business District as the sportsmen and women completely blocked the road.
Kenyans were not left behind in condemning the government in what most people termed as the mistreatment of the sportsmen and women.
This comes a few months after the amputee football team spent a night at the ministry of sports offices over the same issue of delayed allowances.
The then sports CS Rashid Echesa was accused of having abandoned the team after they arrived back to the country having represented Kenya in the amputee football world cup in Mexico.
