Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Thursday received a gift from the Leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) of South Africa, Julius Sello Malema.
Taking to social media, Owino thanked his comrade in the Youth For Africa Movement stating that the gift was a symbolic token.
“My comrade in the Youth For Africa Movement today sent me a precious gift. It is precious because of what it symbolizes. He sent me a red beret from the EFF. This red beret is the same color of the struggle for freedom in Uganda led by Honorable Bobi Wine and the revolution in Zimbabwe led by Honorable Nelson Chamisa,” he stated.
The Embakasi East lawmaker explained that red symbolized the blood that has been shed by patriotic citizens seeking justice, fairness, and freedom in their countries.
He stated that he had renewed his commitment to always speak out in the face of corruption, bad governance, and injustice.
“People Power will always be greater than the People in Power! Viva EFF! Viva Bobi Wine! Viva Nelson Chamisa! Viva Youth For Africa!” he concluded.
Owino has in the recent past been championing for the coming together of young African leaders to ensure that Africans speak in one language.
"Africa is where there are resources, meanwhile it is in Africa where there is poverty, that means there is something wrong with the leadership because with proper leadership there is proper development," Owino noted in a past TV interview.
In 2018, the firebrand politician from South Africa took a swipe at Kenya proclaiming that the country was yet to actually gain independence owing to close ties with the US.
“I don’t think there is total independence there. America has got a huge interest in that arrangement of Kenya,” he observed.
