Wise Words Tanzanian Billionaire Told Jeff Koinange About Death

The late Tanzanian billionaire Reginald Mengi, on December 2018, hosted Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange at his home where he talked about the sad reality of death.

Jeff had asked the wealthy media mogul how he managed to stay humble and related very well with less fortunate people despite his immense wealth.

“Have you been to a funeral? If yes, have you ever seen a rich or powerful person digging a grave? It is the poor people who will dig your grave," he responded.

"The rich people don’t even shed tears because they want to portray themselves as strong. The poor person, on the other hand, would dig your grave, bury you and his or her cry would be visible," he advised.

He added that he loved less privileged people because those were his friends, even at the last moment of being on earth.

Mengi did not know that five months after his insightful interview with the JKL host, he would pass on.

Upon learning of the businessman's death on Thursday, Jeff eulogised his friend as a nice guy who loved entrepreneurship and philanthropy.

"Thanks for believing in Africa, my friend. Go well and rest with the angels!" the news anchor wrote on Twitter.

Mengi came to the limelight in the early 1990s when he set up consumer goods factories and one of the earliest TV stations in Tanzania.

He is also known to empower vulnerable groups in Tanzania and across Africa.
