Mike Sonko Awards Nairobians Ksh200k for Solving Ferdinand Waititu’s Challenge

Flamboyant Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on Friday night, rewarded random social media users thousands of shillings for completing a challenge.

Sonko had asked his followers in a live stream on Facebook to translate Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s interview in a vernacular television station, which was conducted in the Kikuyu language.

The governor promised to give Ksh 5000 each to the first 40 people who gave the accurate translation. No sooner had he finished talking than many people started participating in the challenge.

He immediately started wiring the money to their accounts even as he displayed a series of  M-Pesa messages sent to the lucky followers.

In the interview, Waititu appeared to implicate former Starehe Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda in land-grabbing scandals in a number of places in Nairobi.

"Kamanda sold all the land including the market at Mwariro, the market at Kibiku, at Globe cinéma, all that land it's Kamanda that sold. Also, the land at Buruburu shopping was sold by Kamanda. The Nararashi bus station in town, Kamanda sold.

"Kamanda sold all the vast land that was near Industrial Area depot. Nairobi City Council used to own the biggest parcel of land in Valley Road let Kamanda tell us who sold. When people say they are fighting corruption we know they are not true to their words because we know the real thieves. I want to say that because I want to talk about the truth. That's why Sonko was complaining," Waititu commented.

On Thursday, the Kiambu Governor found himself in hot water after presenting documents, which he had not gone through to the Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee.

The governor was unable to answer questions that arose from the documents from the 2017/18 financial year that he presented himself.
