The Late Nicholas Biwott was a man with many enemies. It was a well-known fact that the mysterious Biwott was president Moi's, right-hand man.
The former Keiyo South MP was wary of plots on his life by his many enemies. He was paranoid and would never take drinks or food served directly to him for fear of being poisoned.
On the said event that happened in 2001, Communication Director ODM Philip Etale who was working for KBC at the time was dispatched with a crew to cover a media event hosted at KICC by the Ministry of Trade and Industries.
Biwott was the Trade Minister at the time.
Recalling the inicdent via his social media, Etale noted that he and his crew showed up late for the event and being KBC (the only respected media house in that era) no one would dare start the event without their journalists to cover.
Soon after the event ended, Etale and team packed their equipment and rushed to their car ready to leave, when they ran into the veteran politician.
In his usual commanding tone, Biwott stopped the pickup and ordered the cameraman sitting at the front of the car to jump into the back of the Peugeot.
Biwott was without a bodyguard or aide and seemed to be in a rush. He jumped into the front seat and looked fiercely at Etale who was just 20 years old then.
He commanded the young Etale to drive him to Teleposta towers which were 500 meters away. Upon arrival at the towers where his offices were, he reached to his pocket as if to pull out something.
To the shock of a frightened Etale, he forked out a bundle of Ksh10,000 and instructed them to go buy lunch. He then told Etale personally, even calling him by name, "Etale, pigia Chepkut Kesho, atachunga wewe mzuri."
To date, Etale stated, "Chepkut has never been found."
