Uhuru Picks NMG Journalist Mutuma Mathiu to Head Kenya Copyright Board

Nation Media Group (NMG) Editorial Director Mutuma Mathiu is among the latest appointees by President Uhuru Kenyatta to head various government corporations.

In a gazette notice dated May 3rd, Uhuru named Mathiu the new chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board.

He is expected to head the board for the next three years.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the Copyright Act, 2001, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint Mutuma Mathiu to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board, with effect from the 3rd May, 2019," read the notice in part.

Mathiu joined NMG in 1997 as a writer for the Sunday Nation and worked his way up the ranks to the current position.

He previously worked as a Group Managing Director and the Managing Director of Daily Nation and Sunday Nation newspapers.

In January 2019, Mathiu was promoted to be the Editorial Manager at the Kimathi street-based media house after the departure of the company’s Editor-in-Chief and Executive Director Tom Mshindi.

At the station, he was tasked with the oversight of the Group’s editorial policy that includes enforcing the ethics, integrity and editorial policy as well as managing content sharing across markets.

Another notable person who was appointed by president Uhuru was the Netflix manager in the department of International Originals Dorothy Ghettuba Pala.

Ghettuba will be the chairperson of the Kenya Film Commission for a period of three years.
