Al Shabaab Storm Foodstore in Mandera

A group of heavily armed Al Shabaab Militia reportedly raided Hareri Hosle village, Khalalio, in Mandera in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Dickson Githaiga, a journalist based in the town of  Mandera affirmed the occurrence of the attack.

"Yes, there was a raid conducted by suspected Al Shabaab militia, they also raided a food store in town and made away with AK47 rifle and ammunition from officers stationed in the area," he affirmed.

Mandera East Deputy Commissioner, Lawrence Omondi, according to Nation, confirmed that two police reservists were injured during the attack.

Mr Githaiga went on to reveal that he was yet to get a hold of any police officer in order to establish whether there had been any casualties.

Voice of Africa journalist, Harun Maruf, revealed that Mandera residents had reported heavy gunfire following the raid through a tweet.

"Al-Shabaab militants have launched an attack on the village of Hareri Hosle, near Mandera town in the early hours of Sunday. Local residents have reported heavy gunfire. Still trying to get more information about casualties," Mr Maruf tweeted.

A local journalist, Yassin Juma, on a Facebook post added that the al Shabaab raid involved at least 30 heavily armed militia.

"Heavily armed Alshabaab militants numbering 30 raid Hareri Hosle village, Khalalio, in Mandera East Constituency in an overnight attack," stated an excerpt of his post.

 

The village of Hareri Hosle is located approximately 30kms west of the Mandera County headquarters.

Kenyan police officials were unavailable to comment on the reported attack carried out in Mandera in the early hours of Sunday morning.
