DP Ruto Backs Speaker Muturi for Governor

Deputy President William Ruto has put his weight behind National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi who is mulling about making a comeback into elective politics in 2022.

Speaking at Kigari, Embu County during a thanksgiving prayer service for Manyatta MP John Muchiri, Ruto praised Muturi for his experience in national leadership.

He told the congregation that the county was favoured to be the home of the third most powerful person in the government after President Uhuru Kenyatta and himself.

Akikosa ile anatafuta, nitawalaumu nyinyi wabunge (If he fails to get the position he is aspiring for, I will blame you MPs),” Ruto was quoted by People Daily

He, however, stated that there would be no direct nomination and all aspiring flag bearers for different positions would have to battle it out.

Muturi, who was also in attendance, spoke his mind about the debate that has been ongoing regarding Ruto's frequent and generous donations to churches.

"We are not going to shy away from coming to church. The church also requires to grow. Kwani wale watakuza hiyo kanisa ni nani, sio sisi (Who will contribute to the growth of the church if not us)?" he commented.

The speaker added that supporting religious institutions would continue for as long as they were invited to do so.

Speaking about the DP, Muturi stated: "We should be grateful that we have a person who, when we are in need, we can run to."

Ruto has come under fire recently with some leaders among them former Prime Minister Raila Odinga questioning the source of the money he contributes to churches.
