Fishy Messages That Made Sonko Fire Maina Kamanda's Son-in-Law

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, on Tuesday came clean on why he ousted  Nominated MP Maina Kamanda's son-in-law, Danvas Makori, from his previous position of County Executive Committee Member for Finance.

Speaking during an explosive interview on NTV, the governor revealed that despite Kamanda constantly hurling insults at him during previous public gatherings, he went ahead and hired Makori based on merit.

However, he soon got wind of an elaborate scheme to pilfer the government coffers through his vast network of informants.

They claimed that Makori, who had also served during Evans Kidero's tenure, had been working with the former governor's Personal Assistant (PA), John Osogo, in a detailed ploy to ransack the county's accounts.

Sonko decided to carry out his own investigation which involved consulting with various security agencies as well as service providers.

The various agencies eventually furnished the governor with message transcripts between the two suspects, and what he found contained within the texts made Makori's stay within his government untenable.

In a message that he read out on live TV, Osogo advised Makori that the county's treasury had asked that they try raking in a smaller amount of money from the account to minimise suspicion.

"Good morning Makori, hope the rest of your weekend was good, just saw some officers from the treasury and they said we try a small figure of  Ksh10 million each week and see how that pans out," Osogo's stated in his message sent on March 5, 2018.

Four days later, Osogo sent out another text to Makori to tread very carefully as Sonko could be onto them as he had informants all over.

However, Makori was quick to disregard the message and stated that he had his boss under control.

"Don't worry about my boss, he pretends to be smarter than us but he's just an academic dwarf," an excerpt of the former CEC's text message read.

It was at this point that Sonko convened a cabinet meeting and confronted his finance CEC head on and went on to dismiss him.

According to Sonko, Makori was caught flat-footed and quickly pleaded for forgiveness, but it was already a little too late.
