Governor Josphat Nanok Vows to Support Ruto's 2022 Presidential Bid

Turkana Governor on Saturday announced that he would back Deputy President William Ruto in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Nanok, who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, made the announcement during a public at Lokori in Turkana East.

He stated that all 14 governors from the Rift Valley would work together to ensure the region clinches the presidency.

"We as governors from the Rift Valley, there are 14 of us, this time around we will walk together on one road.

"Because this time round Kenyans are focusing on Rift Valley to lead the country. That’s our stand,” stated Nanok.

His sentiments caught many people by surprise as he is known to be a close confidant of ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga.

He has in the past rubbed the Jubilee government the wrong way while defending the AU envoy.

In March 2017, he openly clashed with President Kenyatta who had visited the region to ask for votes.

However, Uhuru was not too pleased with his comments. He accused him of trying to blackmail his government with threats.

Mtu akisimama hapa aseme ati Uhuru ako na haja namafuta ya wengine. Ashindwe shetani mshenzi si mimi napitisha sheria. Kazi yangu ni kupitisha kidole alafu mjinga anakuja hapa kusema...Wa kufikiria mimini mtu wa kutishwa watafute mwingine (a stupid person should not come here saying that Uhuru is interested in their oil. My work is not to pass laws but to only append my signature. They should not think that I am afraid of them),” he vented.
