KDF Officer Pumps Colleague With Bullets, Kills Self

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer pumped bullets on a colleague before committing suicide at the Mtongwe Navy Barracks, Likoni.

The officer, Gilbert Kibet Mutai snatched his colleagues G3 rifle and shot him thrice in an incident that occurred on Sunday at 3 am.

After he shot his colleague, Naftali Kimutai, he turned the gun towards himself. Kibet was rushed to the Kenya Navy sickbay where he succumbed to his injuries.

The two are said to have been involved in a scuffle before the shooting. Officers from Inuka Police Station visited the scene of the crime but did not comment on the incident.

The bodies of the two officers were taken to the Coast General Hospital mortuary.

In another incident that occurred in April, a KDF officer from a recruit training group in Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County killed three relatives, including an aunt and two uncles before committing suicide.

OCPD Eldoret West Zachary Bitok narrated that officers from Jua Kali patrol base were awakened by the early morning gunshots.

A man who knew the KDF officer well stated that he had mentioned of a lady who was getting married to someone else yet they had been in a relationship.

Officers who were investigating the incident recovered spare cartridges from the officers' homestead.
