Special GSU Batallion Deployed to Hunt Down Murderous Kakamega Gang

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS), Fred Matiang'i, on Thursday announced the deployment of a special battalion of General Service Unit (GSU) officers to hunt down members of the notorious 42 brothers killer gang.

CS Matiang'i was speaking during his visit to Matungu where he reassured the terrorized residents that help was on its way.

"Our officers are going to comb all the corners of Matungu and hunt down the criminals so that there will be no repeat of such madness involving loss of innocent lives," he asserted.

The Interior CS made his trip to the western region accompanied by newly appointed Inspector General (IG), Hillary Mutyambai who also declared that the gang's days were numbered.

"The days of those criminals who have been attacking villagers and killing them are numbered. From today we are deploying the GSU and increasing the number of other security officers to hunt them all down," he remarked.

Residents had earlier urged the CS to protect them from the gang that is alleged to have killed and mutilated at least 13 people in the last month.

The latest move by the government comes just 10 days after the killer gang hacked and killed a pregnant lady and her 3-year-old daughter in Sayangwe village.

Locals have been living in fear as the 42 brothers gang has exercised their reign of terror with reckless abandon.

Matiang'i went on to allay their fears and promised that the special unit of officers would leave no stone unturned until all members of the outlawed gang were brought to book.

He also announced that a key suspect linked to the gang had been apprehended in Kawangware, Nairobi, adding that the suspected gang member had already shared a lot of vital information relating to other members.
