Citizen TV Story Forces Isaac Ruto to Break Silence

After months of being away from the political limelight, former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, on Sunday, broke his silence after a story aired of Citizen TV showing he had joined forces against Deputy President William Ruto.

In a statement on his social media, the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party leader stated that the report portraying him as having joined the team keen at ejecting the DP was misleading.

"In the bulletin, the station carried an inaccurate item which purports that during the delegates meeting which I hosted at my rural home in Bomet on Saturday, May, 19, 2019, I had joined a team that is anti- Deputy President William Ruto.

"I wish to set the record straight that at no time did we discuss matters relating to the Deputy President, political camps or alignments – and unedited footage on the entire meeting is available," he conveyed.

He held that the report claiming the meeting agenda was based on DP Ruto was an attempt to drive a wedge between CCM, its members, the leadership and a section of the political elite and other parties.

"Much as I respect and root for media independence and my record speaks for itself, the same should be exercised with the professionalism that is devoid of innuendos," the former county head maintained.

The former Council of Governors chairman held that CCM was an independent political party with a unique philosophy and basis for its formation that included entrenching devolution, decentralization of power, services and resources closer to the people at the grassroots, public participation, respect to the constitution and embracing all tenets of democracy.

"It is also our position that the democratic space in Kenya is expanded to accommodate small parties to thrive, people be allowed to make independent choices of the leaders they want in future elections and zoning of political parties should not arise," he stated.

Speaking in Bomet on Saturday, Ruto said that CCM would embark on an aggressive campaign of popularising its policies across the country.

"We will popularise the party, its policies and we will do it in peace and we will support the unity of Kenya. The country is heading in the wrong direction and we have to put a stop to that," he told the party members.
