Asbel Kiprop Professes How IG Mutyambai Salvaged His Life

One of Kenya's most celebrated athletes, Asbel Kiprop, came clean on how a visit to Inspector General of Police (IG), Hillary Mutyambai, saved his life.

The three-time world 1500m champion lauded IG Mutyambai for pulling him out of the worst days of his highly publicized life.

Kiprop made the heartfelt revelations while speaking on Chamgei FM on Monday.

"He listened to me and advised me accordingly. I may not reveal more but I can tell you for sure that the meeting proved to be a turning point to me,” a thankful Kiprop remarked.

The newly appointed IG had summoned the celebrated athlete and police officer after a series of really disturbing social media posts captured the attention of the world.

From a neutral perspective, it seemed as if Kiprop was contemplating actions that could have possibly ended his life.

During his latest interview, he went on to reveal that the day he made his disheartening post was undoubtedly the lowest point of his illustrious life.

“I had been stretched to my limits and on that specific day, I felt bitter in that I did not want anything associated with athletics including my job at the National Police Service (NPS)," he divulged.

He also revealed that he had gone into serious depression and went without saying a word for 10 days after he learned that the IAAF had handed him a four-year ban over alleged doping.

Kiprop then made it clear that he would take full advantage of his new lease of life following his productive heart to heart talk with IG Mutyambai, starting by appealing the ruling that was made at the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS).

“No, I will not walk away in such a manner, with my name tainted and if I do not get justice, I will just persevere and continue training and resume my race before I retire in an honourable manner, the way I envisage,” he asserted.
