Governor Waiguru Considering 2 Deputy President Job Offers

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has revealed that she has received two offers to become a presidential running mate in the 2022 General Election.

Waiguru stated that she was thinking about both offers and would make an announcement when the time comes.

“I have at least two offers for the deputy president position but this is not the right time to name the parties,” she said in an exclusive interview with the Nation.

The county boss stated that she believed the Jubilee Party will still form the next government.

She explained that she wouldn't want to become a boardroom choice with no power.

The governor added that she will ensure that the populous Mt Kenya region gets an equitable share of the government's resources.

“I see my role as making sure the 10 counties that make up the Mt Kenya region get their rightful place in the next government.

We do not want a boardroom appointee to lead the region but rather a person who is the choice of the people,” she told reporters.

Supporting the push for a referendum, Waiguru noted that the current presidential and counties system failed to live up to expectation.

“The referendum should resolve the national leadership issues. We thought that the presidential system would resolve the issues of representation but this has not happened.

“That is why there is a need for expansion of space at the top to make people feel represented,” Waiguru commented.
