Residents of Mbaruk, Nakuru county, witnessed dramatic scenes after mourners lay the corpses of loved ones on the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
Mourners, alongside scores of protestors, reportedly picked the bodies from the mortuary and placed them at the centre of the road once they got to the blackspot.
The residents did this seemingly bizarre act in protest against the numerous hit and run accidents at the blackspots.
A resident, Harrison Muiruri, while speaking on KTN News, stated that there had been numerous deaths in the area resulting from fatal accidents.
"It is a sad day for us as we have buried two of our loved ones who died last week on Thursday following a fatal accident," a sombre Muiruri divulged.
The protestors went on to reveal that they had lost two more local residents on the same day after a lorry ran them over at the very same spot.
Muiruri added that they had pleaded with the local government to set up speed bumps at the notorious blackspot that has claimed many young lives, especially from the neighbouring Laikipia Campus.
"It is very painful for us to bury such young men aged 23 and we are truly saddened by having to attend such funeral every weekend," he lamented.
The protestors also urged the government to set up a footbridge to ensure pedestrians could cross over at the spot where motorists are renown for approaching at really high speeds.
A boda boda operator within the area, Harrison Mungai, echoed their sentiments asserting that something needed to be done and the bizarre protests were a means to an end.
