4 Killed Purchasing Christmas Goods

Four people died on Tuesday morning while purchasing Christmas goods, after they were hit by a rolling lorry that lost control in Isiolo County.

The truck reportedly lost control and rolled downhill towards Isiolo market, where shoppers had lined up along stalls to buy household goods, hitting pedestrians, a motorcycle and three vehicles.

According to witness John Mutembei, a stall operator around the area, among those killed was a man who was holding money ready to pay for clothes he had purchased for his children.

'He bought goods worth Sh 2,300 and was hit as he held the money. I survived by God's grace,'' said Mutembei.

Thirteen others mostly pedestrians were critically injured as the truck supposedly moved for a distance hitting vehicles and pedestrians.

Isiolo County Commissioner George Natembeya confirmed the tragic incident, saying that two people died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries at Isiolo Level Five Hospital.

He further indicated that the death toll may rise since most of the hospitalized were in critical condition with some being evacuated to Meru Referral Hospital.
