4 Standard Group Journalists Arrested in Laikipia

Four Standard Media Group journalists have reportedly been arrested in Laikipia and are currently being detained at Kamwenje Police Station.

The journalists are said to have been on a mission to cover animal killings by the police in Laikipia region when they were apprehended.

The vehicle they were travelling in and their driver were also reported to have gone missing.

Reasons for their arrest remain unclear.

On Wednesday, another Standard journalist was arrested and apparently thoroughly beaten by police in Usenge town, Siaya County.

Isaac Gwengi was attacked, alongside an activist identified as Rodgers Ochieng, while following up claims of harassment raised by the residents against the security agents.

According to the residents, the police have been harassing and frustrating them without any reason.

“We are not happy with the presence of the QRT in the area. They have resorted to beating up everybody on sight and arresting innocent boda-boda riders operating in Usenge and its environs.” one of the residents indicated.
