Uhuru's 3-Hour Meeting That Made Him Storm Depot Twice

Details of President Uhuru Kenyatta's high stakes meeting that compelled him to storm Inland Container Depot twice have emerged.

The Standard reported that during the meeting with the traders which was held at State House, Uhuru kept his aides, who were in attendance, minimum in order to allow the business people to open up more to him.

The traders narrated how the seizure of their goods that had taken months at the depot immensely affected their businesses.

The small traders' representatives, in the three-hour meeting, further raised three pertinent issues including stringent rules that had been effected without their knowledge.

The traders further decried extortion by rogue officials at the port as well as deceitful schemes by some of the importers.

So serious was the Friday meeting that the president promised a quick intervention and subsequently stormed the depot twice and ordered a three-week ultimatum for the containers to be released.

Confirming the meeting, State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena stated that the president had indeed met the traders but remained mum on its proceedings.

“Yes, there was a meeting between the President and the representatives of small traders. It was a closed-door meeting,” stated Kanze.

Uhuru first inspected the Embakasi Inland Container Depot to inspect the goods that were seized on suspicion of being counterfeit.

He later also ordered that in the future, containers should be cleared within four days.
