An 11-year-old boy from Kenya became this year's youngest finalist in the International Holy Quran Competition.
Ally Abdinaasir Liga was the only Kenyan among the 10 finalists in the event that was held in Tanzania.
Other finalists included, Amir Brinkhuis, 23, (South Africa), Shamsi Mwalimu Said, 19, (Zanzibar), Eltigan Mohamed Gobara, 20, (Sudan), Mohammed Alfaten Hasnil, 19, (Malaysia), Agirbas Mustafa Can, 13, (Turkey), Ehaab Mohammed Ebrahim, 23, (Yemen), Uwimana Yuusuf, 22, (Burundi) and Gafffari Mohamed, 14, (United Kingdom).
Despite losing the final to Zakaria Sheha Ally, a 16-year-old from Tanzania, Liga went home with the bragging rights of beating much older competitors.
The Tanzanian went home with Ksh500,000 after carrying the day in the event that is in its second year.
Just like the first edition that was held in 2018 the competition happened during the Holy month of Ramadhan.
Despite the competition happening mostly in the Arab world, East Africa has taken over the mantle with Tanzania hosting two editions.
Capital News noted that the organizers of the event sought, to promote international Quran competitions with the cadres of arbitration alongside setting plans and programs that contribute to achieving advanced positions in Quranic competitions.
The event was a week long.
