Details of Waititu, Daughter 8-Hour Grilling

In the ongoing investigations of how Ksh588 million was paid to firms suspected to be linked to Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, the governor and his daughter Diana Nduta were grilled on Tuesday for more than 10 hours by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption(EACC) investigators.

They were put in two separate interrogation rooms and quizzed about the source of money.

“They are being grilled as a matter of procedure. No one will be detained. There is already a court anticipatory bail for the governor in force. We don’t intend to contravene that,” EACC Corporate Affairs manager Yassin Amaro stated.

They were also questioned on property ownership, which documentation showed they owned directly or through proxies, People Daily reports.

“The money was either directly paid or re-routed from one account to another. We asked him to come and shed light on some grey areas,” a senior investigator stated.

Reports had previously stated that the payments were made to firms associated with the governor's close family members and senior county employees.

On May 23, 2019, the governor was arrested after coordinated raids were conducted on his homes.

Sleuths had stormed two of his Nairobi homes in a 6-hour operation to gather evidence.

After the raid on his Runda residence, the county head was bundled into the EACC van and taken to Integrity Centre for questioning.

The detectives searched his homes in Runda and Garden Estate for documents in connection to corruption in Kiambu County Government.
