Govt Goes After Mzee Moi's Nephew Over Multi-Million Land

The government is now pursuing former President Daniel Moi's nephew after he reportedly illegally dished out public land to some powerful KANU politicians.

According to a report by The Star, the nephew, Gideon Toroitich, while working together with former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae, controversially sold the hundreds of acres estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of shillings to 125 individuals.

In a document tabled before a House committee by Agriculture CAS Andrew Tumuir, Nyachae has been listed among the powerful individuals most of who served in public capacities during the Moi regime.

Nyachae is said to have controversially purchased 17.815 acres in 2006 at Ksh 343,000 although the land had been classified as public and was not for sale.

At the time of his allocation of the parcels, Gideon served as the Managing Director of the Agricultural Finance Corporation.

The pieces of land are located in Magarini constituency in Kilifi County and reportedly belongs to Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC). It was contested by the area's resident who are forced to live like squatters.

Among the powerful politicians who were given a section of the parcel include former minister Katana Ngala, former Cabinet minister the late Kipkalya Kones, former Egerton University vice-chancellor James Tuitoek Francis Kiprui Sang, former assistant minister Abubakary Badawy among others.

The sales reportedly took place between the years of 1994 and 2006 and that the board of ADC did not approve any of the sales.

Tumuir, during the committee meeting, therefore, appealed to the MPs to help the organisation recover the parcels.

“I submit that ADC illegally allocated the land to well-connected individuals and private companies.

“If you look at the list, there are powerful and influential people and again you find some of the individuals were again given land in other ADC farms," appealed Tumuir.
