Family to Receive Ksh1 Billion for Land Next to Deputy President's Office

The family of a dancer to the late President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta is set to receive Ksh1 billion for a property next to the Deputy President’s office.

The National Land Commission (NLC) ruled that the property rightfully belonged to Rahab Wanjiru following complaints of it being allocated illegally.

“The title to the estate of Rahab Wanjiru Evans is upheld,” stated a notice from the NLC.

Complaints issued against the allocation of the land were due to the proximity to the government office terming it a public land.

Members of Parliament had questioned the price of the property citing that it had no buildings on it.

Security concerns led to the land being gazetted by the land commission in June 2015 with the aim to establish the owner.

National Treasury allocated Ksh 500 million during the budget for the year 2015 for the purchase of the plot and a balance of Ksh 500 million was to be allocated in this year’s budget amounting to Ksh1 billion buyout price.

Ms Wanjiru was a former freedom fighter and a member of the Nyakinyua Group, famous for entertaining the late president.

Wanjiru, who passed on in the year 2000, worked as a Nakuru District KANU Women Wing Leader during former President Daniel Moi’s time in the 1980s.

Real Estate Consultancy named HassConsult revealed private land in Nairobi remains most expensive with certain sections being valued at Ksh 509.5 million for an acre.
