MP Recalls Moment Uhuru Almost Gave Up on Being President

Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri on Tuesday claimed that Uhuru Kenyatta almost gave up his presidential bid in 2017.

According to the Nakuru lawmaker, the president was particularly heavily discouraged after the court nullified his election.

The nullification of the August 8, 2017 election made the president almost resign. The election had resulted in massive expenses for the jubilee party.

Ngunjiri, on his facebook, claimed that it was DP William Ruto who saved the bid at this critical juncture.

Ruto ensured that the president remained in the race and that the opposition did not clinch the seat.

"In 2017, when we were told to repeat the elections, Uhuru was almost giving up but Ruto said 'let's go, we have the vote, we didn't steal. They did not put any case that there was any vote stolen'," stated the MP during a press conference at his home in Nakuru.

"Just like Ruto had said, Raila and his brigade were well aware that they stood no chance against the UhuRuto duo," he added.

He concluded that former prime minister Raila Odinga withdrew from the race once he saw how rejuvenated Jubilee was for the repeat poll.

Raila, who boycotted the repeat poll, in his withdrawal statement, however, said that it was because of lack of confidence in the electoral agency.
