Ex-Military Officer Cons Helpless Man Using UN’s Name

Security analyst and former Kenya Air Force's Air Defence Control Unit commander Mwenda Muthuri Mbijiwe was on Friday arraigned in court over fraud charges.

The former military man was being accused of fraudulently acquiring Ksh150,000 from a man by pretending to have links with the United Nations.

According to court documents, on March 28, 2019, at an unknown place within Nairobi County, Mbijiwe reportedly conned Fadhili Abdi Mohamed.

Mbijiwe had misled Mohammed into believing that he was in a position to secure employment for his sister Shamso Abdirahman at the United Nations, once he received the money.

Appearing before magistrate Martha Mutuku at the Milimani Law Courts , however,  Mbijiwe denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.

He was released on Ksh.50,000 cash bail.

Mbijiwe is currently a security consultant and CEO of Eye On Security (K) Ltd.

He formerly served in the Kenya Air Force's Air Defence Control Unit as a commander.

In 2017, Mbijiwe ran for the Meru Gubernatorial seat unsuccessfully.

He was initially in Jubilee but ditched the ruling party in favour of ODM after accusing the former of favoritism.
