Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has raised alarm over the whereabouts of the County Governor Stephen Sang who was arrested on Sunday for malicious damage of property.
The senator, who was speaking on Citizen TV Monday morning show, expressed his concern as he was answering a question on where the governor was.
Senator Cherargei confirmed that the governor had been arrested for destroying mature tea bushes in his county though no one knew where he was taken.
“We are aware that the governor was arrested over malicious destruction of property, but the police have not informed anyone where they are detaining him,” Cherargei added.
The senator though declined to reveal where he got the information of the governor's arrest as reports in the media claimed that the county boss had gone into hiding as the police launched a manhunt for him.
Governor Sang was accused of destroying of over 2,500 mature tea bushes at Kibwari estate, Nandi Hills sub-county.
The County Police Commander (CPC), Thomas Ngeiywa, had on Saturday made it known to the public that the security forces were in hot pursuit of the governor over his role in the destruction of private property.
Kibwari tea estate was the scene of a dramatic showdown on Friday as Governor Sang spearheaded a team of his officials and residents of Ketchem-Kapteng area in storming the multi-national-managed tea estate.
Sang alleged that the contested piece of land had been grabbed in 2003, 23 years after the previous white-settler reportedly surrendered it to the government for the construction of a cattle dip.
