Kenyans Mercilessly Roast Ringtone After Arrest Over Fees

Kenyan gospel singer, Alex Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, claimed that he had been arrested outside the Cooperative University in Karen on Monday.

His declaration, as well as a photo posted on his official Instagram account, caught the attention of the Kenyan online community who tore into the musician over his actions.

Ringtone announced that he had been apparently arrested for prostituting and causing confusion after he was caught with a placard that announced his search for a wife outside the campus.

"When growing up, Ringtone was my favourite artist, and now he stands to be the worst. Always seeking attention," Deezy Msanii.

Others simply maintained that the entire story was a fabrication and a gimmick meant to garner publicity aimed at promoting a new song or project.

"We know these cheap gimmicks by Kenyan artists. If it's a marketing ploy for a song just release it already. It will hit in clubs, and you will make money," Wilfred Savali tweeted.

The musician, who recently turned controversial, had made the headlines a while ago when he posted a video in which he proposed that Ugandan celebrity, Zari Hassan, should marry him.

"Somebody please explain the striking resemblance between this guy and the one who offered Zari a Range Rover? Please I beg, I don't understand. Is he the same guy?" Omwami Muleji posted.

Netizens held nothing back as they blasted the singer over what they termed as childish gimmicks and asked the police to imprison him until he matured.

"Ringtone Apoko I think you are an embarrassment to the boychild. Your attention seeking is way overboard. Grow up!" Edgar Wangula tweeted.

Other reports claimed that he had been arrested by county council officers for not paying advertising fees for his placard as well as causing a ruckus outside the Cooperative University Karen Campus.
