Media Personalities Celebrate Their Fathers With Emotional Messages

Fathers in Kenya are usually considered figures of authority who have that special seat in the house that bears importance almost similar to the iron throne from the popular series, Game of Thrones. Most of them also possess a special voluminous mug that is strictly used but never washed, by them. The remote is considered their personal item and the best part of the chicken is also theirs to devour.

Despite these stereotypes against Kenyan fathers, media personalities on Sunday took to social media to reveal special and emotional moments that they shared with their fathers.

Some of them went as far as posting pictures of their father-son moments and those who lacked photographic evidence, substituted it with heart-warming messages.

Renowned Citizen TV journalist Willis Raburu posted a picture of him and his father sharing a light moment on Instagram. In the picture, he expressed his pride in bearing his father’s name and proclaiming his love for him.

"Happy Father’s Day JaKochieng! I am proud to carry your name and I love you! Thanks for being such a lovely example to me!" his post read.

Citizen TV’s Swahili anchor Rashid Abdallah shared a picture of a father figure who stepped in after his father’s demise in 1996. He went ahead to reveal the sacrifices he made to ensure Rashid achieved his dream. In the emotion-laden message, he wished him a happy father’s day full of blessings.

“ You were a brother who took responsibility as my father soon after I lost my dad in 1996. You indeed sacrificed a lot for the realization of my dreams.” Rashid indicated

JKL host, Jeff Koinange took it a notch higher, sharing a portrait of himself and the genealogy of fathers in his family as well as a little boy perceived to be his son. In his caption, he described what it takes to be a father.

"Here's wishing all father's, both alive and departed, a Happy Father's Day!! Anyone can make a baby but it takes a father to raise one!! #HappyFathersDay2019," Koinange posted.

Julie Gichuru an entrepreneur and media personality, could not hide her gratitude to the men in her life; her grandfather, father, and husband. She poured her heart out to each one of them in a verbose paragraph on Instagram with the most expressive one being addressed to her husband.

“My husband, the father of our children, thank you for your gift of such great love and focus on family. Without love where would we all be? Asante (Thank you) my love, this carries me through life”

Songbird, songwriter, actress, radio, and reality television personality Patricia Kihoro was also not left out. She shared a cute picture of her father helping her get on a bike that she says she was in love with at that time.

“Yeah, I really liked this trike. (Bike? Trike? Yeah?)Happy Father’s Day,” read her Instagram post.

K24 TV presenter, Rose Gakuo could not hide the pride she took in her relationship with her father, especially the support he offered during her time as a contestant at KTN’s The Presenter show.

“...he would call over everything, 'Do you have new ideas, that word is not pronounced like that, your eyelashes are a bit too long but the Red Lipstick is good' This man Gakuo, he will randomly call to tell me how beautiful his view with birds chirping or weaving nests” Gakuo recalled.

Acclaimed BBC journalist Larry Madowo won the hearts of Netizens with his emotional revelation of the death of his father who passed away 25 years ago. The current BBC Africa Business Editor and Washington Post columnist revealed a side that Kenyans have never really seen.

Citizen TV anchor Lulu Hassan crowned the occasion by creating a video that expressed her undying love for her husband Rashid Abdalla and her father. Her video was the icing on the cake especially since the inseparable duo is the envy of many and literally, she stepped up the game.
