Lawmaker Arrested For Causing Disturbance in Toilet

A Nakuru lawmaker is now cooling his heels in the police custody after he reportedly caused disturbance in a public toilet.

Biashara Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Njoroge popularly known as Wanyaguthie was accused of organising goons who harassed the town's traders.

Mashambani Stage Self-help Group (MSSG) members, who claim ownership of the toilet that was attacked, explained that the legislator was the ring leader of the rowdy youths that caused them mayhem.

The members further explained that they had acquired the parcel and put up the structure and had subsequently paid their taxes on time.

“We pay taxes and rent to the county government. Last Thursday, they came, harassed employees, took our licences and assaulted the cashier,” lamented a member as quoted by The Standard.

Confirming the arrest, Nakuru DCIO David Wangai stated that they were looking into the MCA's file to ensure that they gather a strong case against him.

“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) advised me to ensure thorough investigations before the accused can be arraigned,” explained Wangai.

In his defence, Wanyaguthie, however, complained that he was not aware of the accusations until he was informed about them during the arrest.

“I went to the police only to be told that I had something to do with the goons who caused disturbances at the toilet,” he regretted.

Wanyaguthie was set to appear in court on Monday but the hearing was postponed until June 25 this year.

He was arrested alongside 13 other people.
