Sonko Offers Ksh40K for Video of 'Kanjo' Man-Handling Breastfeeding Woman

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has weighed in on an issue that has raised controversy online in the past few days.

The governor took to his Facebook page to comment on a video that had been making rounds on social media of a woman seated on top of a county vehicle breastfeeding a toddler.

The woman claimed that she was arrested, roughed up and tear gassed by the county askaris before later being taken and locked up at central police station.

The driver of the county vehicle claimed that he had parked the car outside their offices at the Nairobi fire station and headed for lunch, only to return and find the woman breastfeeding her baby on top of it.

I'm still disturbed by this case which we are still investigating for our necessary action and dismissal of the officers involved. I'm appealing to whoever has a video clip of how this poor woman was arrested and made to sit on top of this kanjo van,” Sonko wrote on his Facebook page.

The governor also noted that he was investigating the incident and any county officials found to have played any part in the harassing of the woman would be dismissed.

I'm trying to establish huyu mama alipanda vipi juu ya gari ya kanjo kama alikuwa ananyonyesha na kama mtu ako na video please send to 0722886600/0722156700 (I'm trying to establish how this woman climbed on top of the county vehicle while breastfeeding, if anyone has the video please send it). Reward Ksh40k,” he added.

The video emerged online on Sunday of the woman seated on top of the vehicle breastfeeding a baby claiming she was protesting after the county officials confiscated her wares and man-handled her.
