Details of Joho's Meeting With Us Ambassador

Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho on Thursday met with US Ambassador, Kyle McCarter who paid the governor a courtesy call.

The two discussed issues pertaining to Mombasa county in a bid to improve the famous home of tourism alongside other leaders and government representatives.

The deliberations mainly touched on areas of Infrastructural development, Countering Violence Extremism, Investment Opportunities, and other bilateral interests.

Mombasa has in the past had to deal with the rise of terror gangs that escalated levels of insecurity and loss of lives.

The discussions also covered the, yet to be commissioned, Mombasa - Nairobi express highway which is set to drastically reduce the travel time between the two cities, and consequently contribute to boost the economy.

The governor went ahead to highlight that Mombasa intends to deliberate efforts geared towards enhancing the war on graft and peaceful co-existence amongst communities within the county.

The Ambassador on Wednesday handed over a modern server that will be installed at Kenya Ports Authority’s Central Alarm Station and connected to the 11 radiation portal monitors.

According to McCarter, the special equipment provided to the port of Mombasa will help in detecting material or chemicals used in the manufacturing of weapons of mass destruction and other illicit goods.

The installation of the equipment symbolises America's support to Kenya’s effort in countering terrorism, smuggling of drugs, illicit goods and wildlife trophies through the port of Mombasa.

The governor further advocated for closer ties between the county and the United States.
