Matiang'i's Former Aide Appointed to Top CEO Job

Mwenda Njoka, the former Communications Director at the Interior Ministry was appointed as Cheif Executive Officer(CEO) of the Government Press.

The former aide of Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i took up the government position that is increasingly digitizing its information.

The Government Press is not only tasked with printing all official documents but also polishing and publishing the documents in the Kenya Gazette.

The agency also makes the official government rubber stamps and advises the State on all matters to do with the printing of documents.

The appointment puts Njoka at the gatekeeping position from where he will have to ensure accuracy, completeness, and credibility of all official documents, including legislation and public appointments, amid a wave of social media distortion of information.

The elated Njoka, however, postponed his address to the media saying he needed time to settle into his job.

Speaking to Business Daily, Njoka stated that, “I’m just taking over. Let me settle then I will talk to media later.”

His appointment comes after Baringo Senator Gideon Moi's wife Zahra Bahlewa was reappointed to a plum government position.

In a gazette notice, Tourism CS Najib Balala re-appointed Zahra as a member of the Board of Tourism Research Institute.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 54 (1) (h) of the Tourism Act, 2011, the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife reappoints - Zahra Bahlewa Moi to be a member of the Board of Tourism Research Institute, for a period of three years, with effect from the 1st June, 2019," the notice read.

Also appointed by Balala was Susan Maina, to be a member of the Kenya Tourism Board together with Kenneth Kiptoo Boit and Wangai Wamae as members of the Board of Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
