Veteran Journalist Appointed Medical Insurer's Board Chair

Tom Mshindi, former Editor-in-Chief and Executive Director at Nation Media Group had been appointed as the chairman of  AAR Insurance Board of Directors.

He comes in to replace Kiprono Kittony who is retiring after serving in the position for six years.

Mshindi brings in many years of experience from his stellar career cutting across journalism, media and development communication both locally and internationally.

The new chair holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nairobi, and two Advance Management Programme certificates from Strathmore Business School and from IESE Business School in New York, among other professional qualifications.

Appointed alongside Mshindi was Beatrice Soy who becomes a non-executive director. She is a former Human Resource Director at Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited (Kengen).

She brings experience from the public sector having worked for over twenty years in leading government agencies.

Mshindi had left the Kimathi Street-based media house in December of 2018 when he retired after 24 years of service.

In his 24 years at the firm, Mshindi rose through the ranks starting off as a journalist, and later became the Managing Editor of the Daily Nation.

He also held the positions of Managing Director at Monitor Publications, an NMG subsidiary in Uganda, Managing Director of Nation Newspapers Division and Chief Operating Officer.

Mshindi's predecessor Kittony also left his position as the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) President on June 3.
