Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o is a household name due to how popular the comedian has become.
Before moving to Milele FM, he co-hosted a morning show at Hot 96 FM with acclaimed journalist Jeff Koinange.
During a past show, he narrated to Jeff how he landed his first major contract which was with Safaricom.
He recalled that he was phoned and told to attend a meeting at the Waiyaki Way-based telecom and received news that the team in charge of organising tours for the company had settled on him to be the MC for all eight Safaricom Live concerts that were in store.
"They gave me the contract and we started arguing the money. I didn't know how to argue when I saw the money they were going to pay. So I had to lie to them that it wasn't enough but deep inside, I was beaming with joy.
"Whether you are offered a million a day, always say it is not enough," Jalang'o advised Jeff and referred to his Twitter profile that reads "No salary can match my dreams."
Jalang'o then went on to disclose that after he told the firm's executives that the stipulated amount was not enough, they added an extra Ksh 200, 000 to the initial offer.
"The first amount was more than enough but I wanted to show 'I'm Jalas, a busy man so to bring me here you must make it worth it'," the radio presenter narrated.
He went on to do a photoshoot for the purpose of making billboards which he recalled humbled him.
"These are the same streets that I went hungry...asking myself what will I eat tomorrow, where will I sleep. Now they have my billboards, "Jalang'o wondered.
Of the eight concerts, Jalas loved Kisumu's the most because of the reception he got from the over 60, 000 people who attended.
"I got my first cheque. The first thing I did was to go where my mom was living and I cried...I told her 'Listen, do you know anyone around this place selling land?" he asked.
The show host went on to explain that he bought 3 acres of land and started laying the groundwork to build a 3-bedroomed house for his mother.
When he got the second installment of the pay, Jalas could not keep himself from buying a nice vehicle.
"I went back, did my second gig but I became stupid a bit, I bought a Mercedes Benz...because I knew next month there's going to be another cheque so I bought a Mercedes, a black one E250," he told Jeff who could not believe.
"With your second cheque? What were they paying you?" Koinange wondered.
Eventually, Jalang'o was able to complete the construction of his mother's house paying the cost using his third and fourth cheques, leaving him with four more shows to do.
The comedian who used to feature regularly on Churchill Show has since become a force to reckon with in the entertainment industry bagging shows left right and centre.
