Passaris Appointed to UN Habitat Position

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris was on Friday appointed to a position in the United Nations HABITAT.

The woman representative is now the newest executive member of the Political Bureau of the African Forum on Urban Safety (AFUS).

Passaris, who took to her social media to share the good news, stated that her new appointment would build on the work of UN-HABITAT in promoting urban safety.

"I am honored to be appointed as the newest Executive Member of the political bureau of the African Forum on Urban Safety (AFUS) to build on the work of UN-HABITAT in promoting urban safety and enhancing crime prevention and intervention strategies. TwendeKazi, SDG Goal 5," stated the elated Passaris

She further added that the position would enhance crime prevention and intervention strategies.

This is because safety has become a key determinant of the quality of life of urban dwellers.

With the rate of crime, violence, and insecurity rising in the neighbourhoods, at schools, other public spaces, women, children, youth and elderly have become more vulnerable to become victims and to feel more insecure.

Passaris' appointment comes after the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU-K), Secretary General Francis Atwoli's son,  Professor Lukoye Atwoli, also earned himself a seat in a prestigious global medical association.

The Professor, who is also a dean at Moi University was appointed by the World Medical Association (WMA) Ethics Committee for the year 2019-2020 as an official advisor to the global association.

He is also the current Vice President to the Kenya Medical Association and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical Department of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
