8 Killed as Matatu Rams Into Lorry in Kakamega

Eight people died in a horrific road accident on Friday night at Lwandeti along Eldoret-Malaba highway in Kakamega county.

It is reported that a 14-seater matatu hit a boda-boda before colliding with an oncoming lorry.

The matatu, belonging to the North Rift Sacco was travelling from Nairobi when it hit the boda-boda which was ferrying three passengers.

The accident caused a heavy traffic jam on the busy highway.

In a separate incident, a CCTV camera at a petrol station along Thika Superhighway captured a bus overturning at the popular Survey area along the highway.

According to the date displayed on the video that has since been shared on social media platforms, the incident appears to have taken place on Sunday, June 23 at around 4pm.

In the video, the speeding bus is seen losing control just before getting to the Survey underpass, hitting the rails of the road and falling on its side.

Netizens commended the staff members of the petrol station who rushed to the scene and immediately started rescuing the passengers who had been trapped inside the bus.

According to witnesses, the bus often plied the Githurai-Nairobi CBD route.

Luckily, the highway was less busy at the time the accident occurred.
