Boss Flees as DCI Storm Suspicious City Brewery

The owner of a brewery located in Dandora is on the run after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided the establishment on Saturday night.

Neighbours of what was regarded as a suspicious depot and centre of distribution for counterfeit alcoholic drinks alerted the authorities leading up to the raid.

Eight suspects found within the premises were taken into custody but the unidentified owner was able to escape the dragnet.

"Detectives are pursuing the owner who is still at large. Further investigations are ongoing," the DCI tweeted.

The eight were identified as Stephen Wambugu, David Chui, Salome Wanjiru, Wilikister Kemunto, John Mwangi, Daniel Maigwa, Zacharia Macharia and Peter Maina.

Various items were confiscated following the highly coordinated ambush that found the eight workers totally flat-footed.

Several counterfeit cartons of Star Spirit and Blue Ice Vodka were found within the premises, as well as hundreds of empty plastic bottles of various sizes.

It is believed that the empty containers were recycled and refilled with the locally manufactured liquor and sold off to unsuspecting victims.

The mini-warehouse also had highly sophisticated machinery that was reportedly used to give the final products a genuine look.

Several tap-like structures with rubber tubings attached to a main shaft welded onto a large workbench, was also seized following the late night raid.

The attack was led by the Special Crimes Police Unit (SCPU) who confirmed that they would not rest until the owner of the premises was apprehended.

This came barely a day after the DCI arrested Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Ngei Ward, Redson Otieno Onyanga, following the confiscation of a consignment of Heroin nabbed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
