Shock engulfed the home of a former Member of the Trans Nzoia County Assembly after a dead body of her husband, who also served as a councilor, was found in their parking shed on Sunday.
The Standard reported that former nominated MCA Benardine Omondi had gone to church when her husband Fred Opindo Omondi's body was found.
Confirming the incident, a family member revealed that Opindo was alone at home.
"He was alone in the homestead after his first wife had left for church. We found his body hanging inside the shed," the relative told the publication.
Benardine, who was Opindo's first wife, served as a nominated ward representative 2013 and 2017.
The deceased himself worked in the defunct Nzoia County Council as a councilor for three terms before he moved to manage his business.
Police officers were, however, shocked by the family's move to take the body to the mortuary before allowing them to investigate the matter.
The police are therefore investigating the circumstances that led the former leader to hang himself.
"The information we got is that the former councilor took his own life by hanging and when the family discovered this, they moved his body to the mortuary," stated Endebess OCPD Salestoh Njiru.
“I was with the former councilor on Saturday, it is shocking that he is dead," Trans Nzoia County Assembly Speaker Joshua Werunga expressed.
